Q | What makes a Voice Therapist different from a Speech-Language Pathologist? Voice Therapists are Speech-Language Pathologists who have developed deeper expertise through specialized training and extensive clinical voice experience. At SpeechAppeal, our clinicians have advanced training in voice. We continue ongoing training with leading experts in the field (including Hirsch, Helou, Stemple, Schmidt, Goodwin, and others) and are or have been involved in voice organizations such as PAVA, VASTA, PAMA, NATS, and BVA. We draw from evidence-informed approaches including Resonant Voice Therapy and LMRVT, Conversational Training Therapy, Flow Phonation, the Accent Method, SOVTEs, and singing voice rehabilitation, alongside breath–voice coordination, laryngeal manual therapy, myofascial release, and mindfulness-informed techniques. We also contribute to the field through national presentations (including SAC) and university-level teaching. Assessment and treatment are guided by both perceptual and objective measures, including acoustic analysis. We consistently see strong outcomes in voice rehabilitation and high client satisfaction, with progress reflected in client-reported change, objective voice measures, and, when appropriate, follow-up medical evaluation (e.g., ENT reassessment).

Voice training can be a standalone service, or integrated within voice therapy depending on your goals.

This work focuses on optimizing and refining your voice for everyday and professional use, supporting greater strength, clarity, endurance, and flexibility so your voice feels more consistent and sustainable in real-world settings.

We work with professionals who rely heavily on their voice, including teachers, singers, lawyers, coaches, and podcasters.

Common concerns:

  • Voice feels tired or tight after meetings or calls

  • Voice lacks fullness, warmth, or authority

  • Voice has limited flexibility, tone, or range

  • Inconsistent vocal quality

  • Habits like persistent vocal fry or up-speak

Why We Use the Word "Training"

Voice therapy and voice training exist on a continuum. Voice therapy focuses on restoring healthy, efficient voice use. Voice training focuses on refining, strengthening, and expanding vocal function beyond your current baseline. These approaches are often combined to help you develop a voice that feels strong, reliable, and aligned with how you want to sound.
