We support adults and older teens (15+ with parental consent) who stutter in developing greater ease, confidence, and control in communication.

Each program is fully individualized, integrating evidence-based fluency approaches with supportive skills such as breath and voice coordination, and strategies for managing speaking apprehension and pressure.

We work collaboratively to help you carry communication skills into everyday life, whether in interviews, meetings, presentations, social interactions, or podcasts.

Stuttering

Understanding Stuttering

Stuttering (or stammering) is a neurodevelopmental difference in speech fluency that involves disruptions in the natural flow of speech. It is typically understood as the result of a combination of factors, including speech-motor coordination, neurological and genetic influences, and individual differences in communication development.

For adults, stuttering is often shaped not only by underlying speech patterns, but also by a lifetime of communication experiences. Over time, speaking situations, reactions from others, and personal strategies can influence how stuttering is experienced emotionally, cognitively, and physically.

Stuttering can look and feel different for each person, which is why our approach is flexible, individualized, and goals-based. We focus not only on speech patterns, but also on the lived experience of speaking: how communication feels, how it is managed in real time, and what supports greater ease and confidence.

Our Approach

Our work is grounded in an adult-centred model of communication support.

We recognize that adult speaking demands are complex and high-stakes: professional expectations, leadership roles, interviews, presentations, and social dynamics all shape how communication is experienced in real time.

Our goal is not complete elimination of stuttering. Instead, we focus on reducing struggle, increasing ease, and supporting confident, flexible communication, even when stuttering is present.

We focus on speech and beyond, including:

  • Core speech patterns such as repetitions, prolongations, and blocks

  • Physical and behavioural responses that develop around stuttering over time

  • Thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and communication experiences that influence confidence, avoidance, and ease

We integrate evidence-based fluency shaping and stuttering modification approaches with breath and voice coordination, desensitization strategies, and structured practice. We focus not only skill acquisition, but also skill transfer, supporting communication that holds under real-world pressure, not just in sessions.

What to Expect

We begin by understanding your unique speech patterns, speaking contexts, and communication experiences. From there, we develop individualized strategies that support both fluency and flexibility.

Support may include:

  • Fluency shaping strategies to support smoother, more coordinated speech

  • Stuttering modification techniques to manage moments of stuttering with greater ease

  • Respiratory-phonatory coordination to improve breath, voice, and speech alignment

  • Relaxation and desensitization strategies to reduce physical tension and speaking anxiety

  • Exploration of thoughts, beliefs, and communication patterns that may influence fluency and confidence

Through structured practice, real-time feedback, and reflection, skills are progressively carried into increasingly natural and demanding speaking situations.

Can Stuttering Be Eliminated?

Our goal is not complete elimination of stuttering.

Instead, we focus on helping you:

  • Reducing frequency and severity of stuttering moments

  • Decreasing tension and struggle during speaking

  • Strengthening confidence and communication authenticity

Ongoing Support

Communication needs evolve over time as life demands, roles, and speaking contexts change. For many adults, skills continue to develop after initial progress, especially as communication becomes more complex in real-world environments.

We offer ongoing support through check-ins, refresher sessions, or targeted tune-ups to help maintain, refine, and strengthen communication skills over time. This may include revisiting strategies, building confidence in new speaking situations, or adjusting tools as communication demands shift.
